Postdoctoral Scholar

Postdoctoral scholar (CAPM 610.000) appointments provide full-time employment for a temporary and defined period during which the postdoctoral scholar trains under the direction and supervision of a faculty mentor in preparation for an academic or research career. Appointment as a postdoctoral scholar requires a doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.) or the foreign equivalent.

Postdoctoral scholars are covered by the UAW collective bargaining contract.

  2. If you know the candidate you want to hire, postdoc positions are exempt from an open, competitive recruitment and can be hired through exemption Category H.

Annuals Reviews for Multi-Year Appointments
A postdoc’s supervisor is required to complete the review form annually. For multi-year appointments that do not require a DivData reappointment file, email your Academic Personnel Analyst a completed Annual Review Form.

 

Release for Initial Two Year Appointments
A Postdoctoral Scholar can be released on their first anniversary date. A written notice must be sent at least thirty calendar days written notice before the first anniversary date. Contact your Academic Personnel Analyst for more information or questions.

Salary Increases
A postdoc’s experience level will increase on April 1 or October 1, depending on the start date of the initial UC appointment.

  • Postdocs with initial hiring dates occurring between October 1 and April 1 shall move at least to the next experience minimum salary rate level on October 1.
  • Postdocs with initial hiring dates occurring between April 2 and September 30 shall move at least to the next experience minimum salary rate level on April 1.
