Technology Development for Single-Molecule Protein Sequencing (R21 Clinical Trial not allowed) – June 15

Support to catalyze major advances in single-molecule protein sequencing through technology development.

NIA Postdoctoral Fellowship Award to Promote Diversity in Translational Research for AD/ADRD (F32 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) – August 8

Funding for postdoctoral candidates from diverse backgrounds to gain translational skills in data science and drug discovery for AD/ADRD research.

NIH Director’s Early Independence Award – LOI August 2, full application September 2

Support for junior investigators to pursue independent research soon after completion of their terminal doctoral degree, forgoing the traditional postdoctoral training period.

NIH Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings (Parent R13 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) – August 12

Funding to support high quality conferences that are relevant to the public health and to the scientific mission of the participating Institutes and Centers.

NIH Director’s Transformative Research Awards – September 1

Support for individual scientists or groups of scientists proposing unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms, new clinical approaches, or transformative technologies.

NIH Workshops on Computational and Analytical Research Methods (R25 – Clinical Trial Not Allowed) – Earliest submission LOI October 10

Support for short-term workshops or seminars at all levels on computational and analytical research methods, including modeling, biostatistics, ML/AI, and reproducibility in big data analyses.

CA OPC Coastal Resilience Solicitation – June 13

Funds projects that assist coastal communities in preparing for and adapting to the impacts of sea-level rise. Projects must be either research-based or provide on-the-ground resilience to climate change through restoration and/or habitat enhancement. All projects must benefit the coastal or San Francisco Bay region.

Sea Grant/USCRP Translating Coastal Research into Application –  Partnership form due June 1; LOI due June 15; full application due August 30

Funds collaborative projects to integrate research, its application, and community engagement in thematic areas of long-term coastal evolution, extreme storms, and human and ecosystem health. Tier 1: Up to $150K over 2 years. Tier 2: Up to $500K over 4 years. View webinar here

CA Climate Collaboratives Program Round 1 – Pre-proposal due July 15; full proposal due October 7

Funds community-rooted and cross-sectoral partners to form a collaborative and conduct capacity building activities that will drive and sustain climate action. $500K-$1.75M over up to 3 years.

CA Sea Grant State Fellowship – July 20

Program matches outstanding recent graduate students with hosts in state, federal, or municipal agencies in California for a 12-month paid fellowship (stipend of $51,504). Webinar June 29. Register here.

CA Coastal Conservancy Sea Otter Recovery Grants – August 5

Funds activities related to southern sea otter recovery and improving the nearshore ecosystem. Approximately $330K total anticipated available for 2022.

CA WCB Stream Flow Enhancement Program – rolling

Funds projects where the primary focus is enhancing flow in streams that support anadromous fish; support special-status, threatened, endangered, or at-risk species; or provide resilience to climate change. Includes planning and scientific studies.

CA WCB Climate Adaptation and Resiliency – rolling

Funds projects that protect and restore ecosystems on natural and working lands to provide climate change adaptation and resilience for wildlife; assist natural and working lands managers in implementing practices that provide climate adaptation and resilience; and/or increase carbon sequestration in natural and working lands, and provide additional social, economic, and environmental benefits, or “co-benefits”.

Space technologies that are currently at low Technology Readiness Levels, including TA 2: Development of Deterministic High Bandwidth Onboard Wireless Networks. $650K

To research, develop, and demonstrate component and subsystem-level technology development that:

    • Enable or dramatically enhance Earth observation remote sensing measurements in new, innovative ways.
    • Reduce the size, weight, power requirements, development risks and time, and cost of Earth science remote sensing observation systems.

DCL: NSF Regional Innovation Engines (NSF Engines) Program* – Concept Outline June 30

Topic must address a compelling national or societal challenge and be a good fit for that region, reflecting the capabilities of the region – for example, by leveraging existing research or industrial activity – and addressing regional needs. Type-1:up to 24 mo $1M, Type-2:up to 10 yr $160M

Fellowship for PhD students interested in life sciences innovation and entrepreneurship. Fellows will gain hands-on experience in innovation landscaping and an introduction to due diligence and sourcing of new technologies and receive a $4K stipend. 

Genentech 2022 Health Equity & Diversity in STEM Innovation Fund – LOI June 10

$150-750K/1-3yrs, three tracks. Priority areas include dismantling barriers to a diverse, inclusive and antiracist scientific and health care workforce.

DoD ONR Young Investigator Program – July 1

$750K/3yrs for research consistent with ONR’s technology areas of interest. Submit inquiries and questions by June 24.

NSF Leading Engineering for America’s Prosperity, Health, and Infrastructure – LOI July 15, full proposal Aug 15

$1-2M/5yrs for interdisciplinary research leading to disruptive technologies and methods, new and strengthened industries, improvements in quality of life, or re-imagining and revitalizing the built environment.

NSF Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers – August 12

Multiple tracks/funding levels for applied R&D to advance equitable and inclusive integration of technology in pre-K-12 STEM.

NSF Disaster Resilience Research Grants – LOI June 20, full proposal August 19

$200-400K, ENG Directorate, jointly with NIST, to advance understanding of disaster resilience for improved, science-based planning, policy, decisions, design, codes, and standards.
