The Offices of Research and of Foundations Relations are pleased to share two open calls for funding from the Breast Cancer Alliance: Exceptional Research Grants and Young Investigator Grants. Please forward the calls to interested faculty and post-doctoral researchers in your departments and divisions.
(1) EXCEPTIONAL PROJECT GRANTS
Breast Cancer Alliance invites clinical doctors and research scientists at any stage of their careers, including post-docs whose current proposal is focused on breast cancer, to apply for an Exceptional Project Grant. This award recognizes creative, unique, and innovative research and is open to applicants at institutions throughout the contiguous United States. The research project must be directly related to the field of breast cancer. Areas of relevant research may include but are not limited to diagnosis, etiology, immunology, genetics and epigenetics, therapies, prevention, and clinical studies.
Award Amount & Terms
- $100,000 (over one year)
- Indirect costs, included in the $100,000 award, are limited to 8% of total direct costs.
Eligibility
- Research scientists at any stage of their careers, including post-docs
- BCA will accept a maximum of 2 LOIs per institution
- If you are submitting an LOI for an Exceptional Project Grant, you may not apply for a Young Investigator Grant for the same project.
(2) YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANTS
Breast Cancer Alliance invites clinical doctors and research scientists whose primary focus is breast cancer research and who are in the early stages of their careers to apply for funding for the Young Investigator Grant. This grant is open to applicants at institutions within the United States. The research project must be directly related to the field of breast cancer. Areas of relevant research may include but are not limited to diagnosis, etiology, immunology, genetics and epigenetics, therapies, prevention, and clinical studies.
Award Amount & Terms
- Salary support and project costs for a total of $125,000 (distributed over two years).
- Indirect costs, included in the $125,000 award, must be limited to 8% of total direct costs.
Eligibility
- Applicants must have not held a faculty position for more than four years following completion of their training as of March 1, 2023;
- Applicants have not been a principal investigator on an NIH R01 or equivalent national/international non-mentored award;
- Applicants dedicate at least 50% of their work effort to research.
- BCA will accept a maximum of 2 YIG LOIs per institution
- This grant is intended to help advance the careers of young researchers who do not yet have significant grant support.
- If you are submitting an LOI for an Exceptional Project Grant, you may not apply for a Young Investigator Grant for the same project.
TO APPLY
To be considered for nomination for either opportunity, materials should be submitted to the internal campus competition via InfoReady. Then, select “Apply” from the menu on the right-hand side and upload the following documents:
- One-page Letter of Intent (LOI): The LOI must contain the applicant’s name, job title, and institution at the top of the page and the applicant’s contact information. The document should state the project title and hypothesis, outline the research aim(s) and methods, and include a brief discussion of the project’s potential impact.
- CV: the CV should be in the current NIH biosketch format.
TIMELINE
- February 13, 2023: Internal submission due
- February 23, 2023: Two campus candidates selected for each opportunity
- March 31, 2023: by 5:00 PM: LOI and CV due at the Breast Cancer Alliance
- Mid-May 2022: Notification if invited to submit proposal
- July 21, 2023: Full applications due
- Mid-February 2024: Notification of awards
