Funding:  $300,000 to $1 million. Important note: Grantees must provide at least 1:1 matching funds from non-federal partners. Refer to FFAR’s matching guidelines.

Overview

The Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) announces the 2023 Seeding Solutions program and invites applications for innovative and transformative research to benefit farmers, consumers, and the environment. FFAR seeks to award approximately ten meritorious applications, prioritizing those projects that emphasize a commitment to cross-sector partnerships. Applications that address the following will receive preference (for details, refer to the guidelines and RFA here):

  1. Contribute to the goal of sustainable food and agriculture
  2. Accelerate innovation within FFAR’s Challenge Areas
  3. Address an aspect of the following Challenge Area or AgMission priorities.
  4. Demonstrate fully integrated partnerships with different sectors such that research outcomes may be scalable and applicable to food and agriculture systems
  5. Uphold FFAR’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by seeking unique perspectives through participatory stakeholder engagement and developing results to serve the diverse stakeholders committed to addressing challenges related to food supply and agricultural sustainability.
  6. Serve the public good by making data open and accessible to the public, creating unique economic development opportunities, or contributing to food and agriculture workforce development

Eligibility

FFAR welcomes applications from all domestic and international higher education institutions, nonprofit and for-profit organizations, and US government-affiliated research agencies.

Any individual(s) with the skills, knowledge, and resources necessary to carry out the proposed research as Program Director(s)/Principal Investigator(s) may apply to the Seeding Solutions program through their home institution or organization.

FFAR will not support research that addresses a challenge primarily limited to another country or region outside the U.S. or where the technology or solution is not broadly relevant to the U.S.

The Office of Foundation Relations is a unit of University Relations. The FR team creates and maintains mutually beneficial, long-term relationships with private organizations, matching grant initiatives with educational and research programs and centers. FR supports faculty and staff to identify and approach these and other private foundations and corporations for funding, to assist in strategic positioning of the grant application, and to facilitate funder campus visits.
