Overview
The Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation supports early-stage biomedical investigators engaged in basic and translational research that has the potential to make fundamental advances in biomedical science.
Eligibility
- Tenure track faculty members in their first to fourth year
- Applicants with current R01 funding should not apply.
- Institutions may submit one proposal per session.

Award Amount & Terms
- The grant provides $75,000 annually for a period of up to three years.
- Grants are not renewable.
- The Foundation will not fund overhead.
To apply
To be considered for nomination, materials should be submitted to the internal campus competition via InfoReady. Select “Apply” from the menu on the right-hand side, complete the form, and submit the following materials:
- Nomination letter from the department chair or dean (2 pages). This should indicate how the candidate demonstrates outstanding promise as a contributor to biomedical science and describe how the department and division will support the candidate.
- 2-page summary: For internal consideration, submit a 2-page summary of the research idea. Summaries should illustrate how the idea has the potential to produce an unusually high impact. Strong proposals will incorporate particularly creative and pioneering approaches to basic and translational biomedical research. If nominated, the candidate will need to prepare a full proposal in line with the foundation’s requirements.
- Biosketch in NIH format (up to 5 pages)
We encourage applicants to apply to the Pew Biomedical Scholars Program and the Pew-Stewart Scholars Program for Cancer Research for internal campus consideration if appropriate
