Opportunity: Simons Early Career Investigator in Marine Microbial Ecology and Evolution Awards

Overview
The purpose of these awards is to help launch the careers of outstanding investigators in the fields of microbial ecology, microbial biogeochemistry and/or microbial evolution in marine or natural freshwater systems, who will advance our understanding through experiments, modeling or theory. Investigators must be currently active in basic research addressing fundamental questions in microbial ecology and/or evolution in natural aquatic systems, excluding research focusing on the microbiomes of animals or plants, problems related to pollution and paleoceanography and/or geobiology.

Eligibility

Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

A tenure-track or equivalent independent position no earlier than November 2018 and no later than January 2023

Currently hold a tenure-track or tenured position.

Principal investigator (PI) or co-PI currently or within the past year on a research grant on microbial ecology and/or evolution in marine or natural freshwater systems from a national governmental agency or major national or international foundation.

Funding must go directly to the institution for research in the field of marine microbial ecology and/or microbial evolution. Applicants are eligible with a grant in a closely related field AND are as author on a publication in the field of marine microbial ecology within the last three years.

$270,000 USD per year, including indirect costs, for 3 years

Indirect costs limited to 20%
