LOCATION:
Physical Sciences Building
UTILITY TO BE SHUT DOWN:
Hot Water – includes heating, domestic, industrial, and process
SCHEDULED DATE(S):
Monday, September 15 to Friday, September 19, 2025 (add this to your calendar)
SCHEDULED TIME:
7:00 AM 9/15 through 2:00 PM 9/19
REASON:
Piping work under PPDO project 9004-005.
IMPACTS:
During this shutdown, there will be no building hot water (including heating, domestic, process, and industrial) for the Physical Sciences Building. All systems that rely on heating water, domestic hot water, industrial hot water, and/or process heating water will not be functional during this shutdown. Please plan experiments and lab activities accordingly.
Processed Cooling Water (PCW), the condenser water loop and reliant systems (e.g., chilled water, environmental control rooms), and autoclaves will NOT be impacted by this work.
NOTE about handwashing concerns:
Hand washing is an important part of reducing the risk and spread of disease – please note that water temperature has little or no effect on transient or resident bacterial reduction. Hot water for hand washing has not been proven to remove germs better than cold water.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you foresee any critical issues or have questions regarding this work. (email pbsciwodesk@ucsc.edu).
