Dear Faculty and Staff:
We are seeking self-nominations to serve on the new Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences. This new standing committee is being formed as a way to work collectively to fight bias and discrimination in the division and more broadly in STEM on and off campus. Please see the committee charge (LINKED HERE) for information about the scope of the committee’s work.
Because this is a new committee, we have not yet defined specific goals – thus, one of the committee’s first steps will be to draw on the considerable expertise and experience that we have on campus and in the science division to define and execute specific high-impact projects. To this end, we seek self-nominations from faculty, staff, and students who have a proven record of experience with, and dedication to, DEI issues.
The division’s Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will comprise the Associate Dean of DEI, five additional faculty members, two staff members, one graduate student member, and one undergraduate student member. Committee members will serve 2-year terms, meet about once a month for 1.5 hours per meeting, and work throughout the year outside those meeting times to advance their goals.
All self-nominations should include a letter that explains your relevant experience and motivation to serve on the committee. In addition, if you are a staff member, please confirm that you have spoken to your supervisor and have their support. If you are a student, please also submit a letter supporting your nomination from a faculty or staff member.
