Program 1
Overview
CureSearch for Children’s Cancer’s Acceleration Initiative (AI) advances pediatric cancer research worldwide to address the most challenging problems facing childhood cancer research in order to accelerate progress in the field toward a cure. CureSearch for Children’s Cancer will review and fund promising research that addresses barriers in areas of high unmet need in pediatric cancer research. CureSearch supports innovative, evidence-based translational and preclinical cancer research that has a high potential to improve therapeutic options through research pathways that are collaborative, interdisciplinary, and generate measurable results
The 2023 AI solicitation is requesting translational and preclinical projects aiming to bring advances to lead to clinical studies that address areas of high unmet need and will lead to therapies for children within a three-year timeframe. Applicants are encouraged to describe how their proposal will address a challenge and overcome critical barriers to pediatric oncology treatment.
Funding
Not to exceed $1.5M total costs over three years, inclusive of 10% indirect costs
Eligibility
- Applicants from academic research institutions involved in the development of novel cancer therapeutic approaches with pediatric oncology application.
- CureSearch encourages applicants from diverse populations to enhance the participation of researchers identified as nationally underrepresented in the biomedical and clinical sciences.
- The applicant must be the principal investigator (PI) who is affiliated with an academic institute.
- The applicant must have a doctoral degree, including MD, PhD, DO, or equivalent.
- Laboratory scientists and clinical investigators must have adequate space to conduct proposed research and protected time for research, verified by a Letter of Institutional Support.
- For applicants seeking support of $500,000 or greater, a minimum committed effort of 10% from the PI is required.
- Applicants must not hold an active CureSearch grant or apply for funding
through another CureSearch program during the same cycle.
Program 2
Overview
CureSearch’s mission is to drive innovative research to clinical impact to accelerate the delivery of novel therapeutics to pediatric cancer patients. A key component of this mission is to ultimately drive outstanding translational and preclinical research to clinical trials and beyond towards commercialization. The 2023 Young Investigator Program is designed to provide support and training for exceptional young investigators in pediatric oncology drug development. The award is intended for investigators who have completed postdoctoral training and are transitioning to a full-time academic position.
Funding
$75,000 per year for up to three years, including 10% in indirect cost
Eligibility
- Applicants must be MD (or equivalent), PhD, MD-PhD with no more than six years
beyond completion of post-doctoral training - Applicants must have an academic appointment at a medical institution at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level
- Applicants must have an academic mentor identified and the application must include a letter/statement from the mentor documenting his/her involvement in the proposed research
