LOCATION:
Sinsheimer Labs, South Wing

UTILITY TO BE SHUT DOWN:
Heating Hot Water (HHW), Chilled Water (CHW), and Air Handler AHU-2 (impacting Exhaust Fans & Fume Hoods)
The work requiring this Utility Shutdown directly supports the ongoing Sinsheimer HVAC & Mechanical Controls Project currently underway in the SOUTH Wing Labs.

SCHEDULED DATES & TIMES: (includes after-hours work over Winter Curtailment)
(add this shutdown to your calendar)

Heating Hot Water (HHW) and Chilled Water (CHW) Shutdown
Wednesday, December 17, 2025 to Friday, January 2, 2026
– CHW and HHW/building heat in the South Wing will be offline 24/7 for entire duration of work (including no heating or cooling in lab spaces).
*NOTE: The CHW + HHW refill and restart is tentatively planned for December 30, 2025, with a back up date of January 2, 2026.

Airhandler Unit Shutdown (no HVAC or building ventilation available)
7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on the following days:
December 17-19;
December 22-24;
December 29-30, 2025;
January 2, 2026
*NOTE: The Air Handler will be turned back ON each evening at 5:00 PM, and then turned back off on the next scheduled day at 7:00 AM (in other words, building ventilation will be on each day overnight).

REASON:
Coil replacement on the Air Handler Unit – major infrastructure upgrade. This work is a major milestone needed to support the new HVAC Controls system infrastructure being installed.

IMPACTS:
– There will be no building heat, cooling, or ventilation (including fume hoods and exhaust fans) available to the Sinsheimer South Labs during the hours and dates noted above.
– Heating Hot Water and Chilled Water will be shut down building-wide for the entire duration of the shutdown.
– Environmental control rooms will continue to operate during this shutdown, with no planned interruption to temperature control.

Please plan experiments and research activity  accordingly. If you have a specific issue or planned activity we can address prior to this shutdown, please reach out to us at pbsciwodesk@ucsc.edu so we can try and accomodate you.

DETAILS:
Thank you for your continued understanding as this critical building upgrade continues. This extended shutdown period has been scheduled during winter curtailment/break to minimize research and lab impacts.

Thank you,
