The heating and cooling coils located within the PSB rooftop air handler units are being replaced, and new fans are being installed. Other maintenance needs are being addressed concurrent with this shutdown to minimize future disruptions.
The heating and cooling coils are from the original building construction and are at the end of their functional life-span. By scheduling the work during PSB building occupant’s preferred one-week window,  and the efforts of the contractor and project manager to minimize the duration of the work, we will avoid an unplanned, prolonged outage and higher impact disruption to research and academic operations.
Monday June 7th through Friday June 11th, 2021 (FULL WEEK )
– The building supply air and exhaust fans will be turned off 24 hours a day for the duration of this shutdown. Labs cannot be occupied while ventilation is not operable.
– If you need access to your lab for short periods of time during the shutdown (max 20 minutes) access must be arranged and granted for essential research functions. Please email the PBSci Work Order Desk to coordinate access.
– A large crane will be used, off and on, for the duration of the week.  The offices in the north and west wings cannot be occupied due to the crane working above the building.
-The South wing of the building will not be under the crane lifts, and may be occupied with windows open during this project.
– The North and West Wings of the building, all floors, need to be unoccupied for safety reasons during the project.  SEE DETAILS BELOW *

– See attached diagrams for areas of the building that must remain unoccupied.
– The work is anticipated to be completed by the end of day on Friday, 6/11/21.
– The Northern corner of McLaughlin at Steinhart will be blocked (both lanes) when the crane is operating—detour and traffic controls will be in place by TAPS. A separate Road Closure notification will be sent out with more details.
