Michelson Medical Research Foundation Human Vaccines Project Next Generation Grants – June 26

$150K to researchers 35 or younger for disruptive approaches to advance human immunology, vaccine discovery, and immunotherapy research. Contact Foundation Relations (cfr@ucsc.edu) if applying.

NIA Predoctoral Fellowship Award to Promote Diversity in Translational Research for AD/ADRD (F31) – August 8

Funding to train promising doctoral candidates from diverse backgrounds to help them gain critical translational skills in data science and drug discovery for various aspects of AD/ADRD research.

DCL – NSF Options to Address Helium Supply Shortage Concerns

To purchase and install commercially available helium recovery systems to efficiently recycle and re-use helium. Will be reviewed competitively. BIO, proposals can be submitted at any time to the Division of Biological Infrastructure (DBI).

NIH FY21 Cumulative Investigator Rate and Funding and Success Rate data.

One takeaway: Decreasing R21 funding trends have led NIH to encourage applicants to focus on other grant types (like R01-equivalents).

USACE ERDC Harmful Algal Bloom Field Validation Program: Aquatic Nuisance Species – Pre-prop June 21, Full proposal July 15

Supports field validation of innovative HAB prevention and management technologies, or combinations of technologies, that have been proven at lab or pilot scales. Preference given to projects focused on six focus areas, including the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Estimated $800K-$2M.

Focuses on collaborative science engagement that intends to develop a community of researchers across both crops and animals that will lay the foundation for expanding knowledge concerning genomes and phenomes of importance to the agriculture sector of the United States. $1.92M over 3 years.

To participate in a training, research, and development program related to the mission space of DOE IP.

$100K -$1M per year, 5 years. Only MSIs can lead.

DOE – RENEW: Advanced Scientific Computing Research – Reaching A New Energy Sciences Workforce – Pre-App August 3, Full Prop. September 16

To increase participation of underrepresented groups in the quantum computing and networking workforce. Tracks 1-3: $50K-$500K/year max 3 yrs, Track 4: $25K-$100K for 1 yr.

DOE – RENEW: High Energy Physics – August 15

To support training and research experiences of particle physics for members of underserved communities, with the dual goals of :

  1. increasing the likelihood that participants in MSIs to pursue STEM careers
  2. supporting investigators and building research infrastructure at institutions that have not traditionally been part of the particle physics portfolio. $200K-$500K/yr, 3 yrs.

DOE – Traineeship in Computational High Energy Physics – June 30

To support appropriately-trained next generation of scientists and researchers in specific disciplines or sub-disciplines in the areas of software and computing technologies in High Energy Physics. $500K -$1M per year, 5 years.

To support research centers focused on major, long-term fundamental chemical research challenges.

Phase I max $1.8M for 3 yrs and Phase II max $4M/yr for 5 yrs (requires previous Phase I funding).

To design or improve research tools and methods with a focus on research infrastructure. Program areas: bioinformatics, instrumentation and research methods.
