2022/23 WINTER CAMPUS CLOSURE NOTIFICATION

Campus Closure Period: 
Friday, December 23, 2022–Monday, January 2, 2023




RECEIVING/DELIVERIES:

  • PBSci Receiving/Delivery will be closed 12/23/22-1/2/23

Last day for deliveries is Thursday, December 22nd, 2022.

  • Delivery service providers have been advised of the campus closure. No deliveries will be made during campus closure, including standing blanket orders for radioisotopes, compressed gasses and/or liquid nitrogen.
    * Place critical orders now to have the best chance for delivery on or before Thursday, December 22nd, 2022.
  • Contact Rick Wood via email or by phone at 831-459-2785 with questions regarding receiving operations.

PURCHASING:

  • Orders can be submitted at any time through CruzBuy, however accountants will not approve orders over the break and no deliveries will be made during that time.

FACILITIES:

General Building Information for December 23rd – January 2nd:

  • Call 9-1-1 for emergencies
  • For critical NON-EMERGENCY facilities issues, please contact UCSC Dispatch at 831-459-2231.  Please also notify Facilities Manager Chris Parker (831-212-0005) of any critical facilities issues that arise. 
  • For non-emergency issues, email pbsciwodesk@ucsc.edu and someone will respond when we return on January 3rd, 2023.
  • Buildings will remain locked for the duration of the Winter campus closure.

PBSci Facilities will inform all building occupants of any PPDO Planned Maintenance work during the campus closure. You can also check here for the PBSci Facilities Shutdown Calendar.

Building Ventilation, Autoclaves and Heat:

  • Labs and greenhouses: normal operations
  • Offices, administrative and public spaces: normal ventilation and minimal or no heat 

Extended Absence Recommendations:

  • Water: Where possible, close valves and drain reservoirs to prevent floods.
  • Gasses: Where possible, close valves to prevent gas leaks.
  • Fume Hoods: Close sashes and ensure hood contents are capped and properly stored. 
  • Turn off devices and unplug non-essential equipment to avoid damage in power outages.
  • Remove food to discourage rodents or other pests from entering your space.

The Core West Parking structure work beginning on 12/12/22 will continue during the Winter Campus Closure. See more information here.

**PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOUR VEHICLE IN THE CORE WEST PARKING STRUCTURE OVER THE WINTER HOLIDAY! WORK WILL BE ONGOING THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS CLOSURE PERIOD.
