Overview

The Moore Experimental Physics Investigators (EPI) initiative provides support for creative mid-career individuals and their research teams to advance our understanding of physical phenomena and promote equity and inclusion in experimental physics communities.

Funding will support researchers to venture in new research directions that have the potential to transform the field, organize efforts to bring scholars together to help encourage new ideas and collaborations, and help group leaders build a productive and inclusive research culture in their labs and within their department and university.  The application guide, including pre-proposal instructions, can be found here.

Eligibility

  • Investigators must have earned tenure (or equivalent) at their U.S. institution and be within five years of that appointment at the time of application.
  • Investigators must have earned tenure after 25 October 2018.
  • Investigators may optionally request a 1-year extension to the eligibility criteria owing to life events.

Award Amount & Terms

  • Grant of $250,000 per year for five years with additional funds available for research
    equipment.
  • This amount includes a 12.5% overhead allowance on eligible expenses.
  • Grants will be made to the applicant’s non-profit or public university or research institution.

The Moore Foundation plans to support the work of roughly 20 Investigators each year.
