The data+ethics Faculty Seed Grant competition offers awards from $5,000 to $10,000 for interdisciplinary teams to launch research collaborations or pilot projects that relate broadly to the theme of data+ethics.Please apply via InfoReady before January 15th, 11:59 p.m. 
 

Application Materials 

Cover page: Title, abstract (up to 125 words), 3-5 keywords 

Project description (up to 3 pages, single space, 12 font size) 

  1. Overview of project goals and objectives
  2. Relevance to issues around data and ethics
  3. Past experiences or qualifications of the applicant(s) for conducting the research
  4. Interdisciplinary nature of the work. Cross-divisional collaboration with a Social Sciences faculty is strongly encouraged.
  5. Pilot data collection plan, if applicable
  6. Describe the extramural grant(s) that will eventually be pursued.

Project Timeline (up to 1 page)

Itemized budget with justification (up to 1 page)

Include the amount you need to scale the project or idea to the next level. The seed funding program is likely to fund projects up to $5,000.

Deliverables Expected From Awardees

As ways to give back to the community, awardees are expected to:

  • Give a flash talk at the data+ethics coffee series in 2025-26.
  • Submit an external grant application or an update of the progress and timeline, by Spring 2026.
  • Provide a research brief on the funded activities by Spring 2026; the Social Sciences Division will share it with the campus community.
